Walking Footballers
Many of the Eastleigh FC Walking Footballers also follow Eastleigh FC and as Ian Ritchie, the Walking Footballer’s Honorary Secretary explains, “the only ‘qualification’ is that you must be at least 50 years young for males and 40 for the ladies.”
The ladies play on Sunday afternoons and Wednesday evenings while the men play Monday evenings with the biggest sessions taking part on Thursdays, where there are three back-to-back sessions from 11am.
All abilities, shapes and sizes are welcome, so whether you just want to get or keep fit, or want to play tournament football, you will be very welcome.
Many of the Walking Football players have found on joining that they reconnect with players that they played with or against in years gone by, in the 11-a-side game.
The Walking Football teams enter local, regional and national tournaments and in May 2024, the ladies team had a successful tour to Spain.
The men’s team has won the National Cup on three occasions as well as various regional competitions. Several of Eastleigh’s players, both male and female, have also represented England.
In September 2014, Eastleigh FC Walking Footballers celebrated their 10th anniversary with a gala dinner that featured guest speaker, Francis Benali MBE.
