A cool spot kick from Chris Maguire late on helps the Spitfires to progress in the FA Trophy.
The home side had the lead at the break, but would see a second-half turnaround from the Spitfires, with goals coming from Scott Quigley and Chris Maguire.
The home side rattled the crossbar just moments into it. Mat Mackenzie’s shot from the right side of the box looked good, but did not dip enough for the hosts to gain an early lead.
Scott Quigley then tested Sam Beasant in the seventh minute. After driving with the ball, he cut inside and curled a shot towards the bottom left corner, but saw his effort get caught by the Hanwell ‘keeper.
Just before the 20th minute, the Spitfires created a big chance. Alex Stephen-Iwumene had the opportunity to score a debut goal, after he was slipped through on goal, but he had his shot saved down low by Beasant.
Not too long after, the Spitfires had another big opportunity. This time, it was Tyrese Shade who attempted to give the Spifires the lead. He struck the ball from a tight angle, but saw the ball cannon back off the post.
Joe Wilson fired the home side into the lead against the run of play, with a sweet strike that sailed into the top left corner from range.
Paul McCallum found the back of the net in the first of five added minutes, but his goal was quickly chalked off as offside.
Dan Carr bent a free kick from around 25 yards out just wide of the target, with the first chance of the second-half.
Quigley levelled the scoring in the 55th minute. After finding himself through on goal, his powerful effort was met by a hand from Beasant, but still managed to creep into the back of the net.
Shade had a go at completing the turn around not so long after. He spun past a couple of Hanwell defenders before popping a shot towards goal, but saw his effort go just wide of the mark.
The Spitfires had another goal chalked off in the 71st minute. Shade managed to find the back of the net, but the linesman had his flag up.
Noa Boutin came inches away from putting the Spitfires into the lead with just less than ten minutes remaining. A corner was cut back into his path, before he curled it just wide of the target.
A superb bit of skill from Jai Semenyo saw him dance around the Hanwell defence before breaking into the box. He was taken down by Beasant and the referee pointed to the spot. Chris Maguire stepped up to take the spot kick, and made no mistake as he slotted the ball home into the bottom corner.
The home side diid not manage to come up with an answer for the late goal, meaning the Spitfires would progress into the Fourth Round of the FA Trophy.
