The points were shared at the Silverlake Stadium as Eastleigh and Wealdstone played out a tight goalless draw in the Vanarama National League.

The Spitfires showed attacking intent from the very first minute of the game, when Chris Maguire saw his shot deflect wide of the mark.

Wealdstone threatened to break the deadlock in the 7th minute when Ashley Charles looped a header towards goal, but Joe McDonnell held onto the ball well.

A minute later, Maguire bent a free-kick narrowly wide, as the game began to open up.

Alex Dyer then stung the palms of McDonnell with a fierce effort for the Stones, as both sides continued to create chances in front of goal.

Wealdstone had a flurry of chances in quick succession as George Langston blocked a goalbound shot, before Dyer blasted over the bar from the edge of the box.

Jed Ward got down well to prevent Lee Hodson from giving the hosts the lead with a powerful strike from distance on the half hour mark.

Both sides struggled to create clear cut chances for the remainder of the half, as the two sides went into the break goalless.

Wealdstone captain Jack Cook had the first sighter of the second half, when his weak shot was scooped up with ease by McDonnell.

The visitors continued to put the pressure on early in the second half with Tahvon Campbell’s shot deflecting wide of goal.

Wealdstone should have had the lead after a teasing ball by Charles Clayden found Campbell in the box, who set it up nicely for Micah Obiero, but he shot straight at McDonnell.

The Stones continued their dominant start to the second half and should have been in front when McDonnell had to be alert to prevent an own goal from a corner.

The Spitfires thought they had the lead in the 71st minute, when Maguire had the ball in the net but he was flagged for offside.

Five minutes later, Enzio Boldewijn played in a perfect cross for Paul McCallum who poked the ball just wide.

Wealdstone nearly stole the win in stoppage time when McDonnell had to tip Obiero’s shot round the post.

Clayden flashed a free-kick narrowly wide with the final kick of the game, as both sides had to settle for a point apiece.
