Eastleigh are back on the road to face fellow play-off hopefuls Boreham Wood at Meadow Park in the 40th matchday of the Vanarama National League on Saturday 25th March with a 3pm kick-off. Preview in association with Unibet.
Boreham Wood:
The Wood’s winning streak of five matches came to an end last weekend as Boreham Wood fell to a 2-0 defeat at Solihull Moors.
The result meant the Wood missed the opportunity to leapfrog Eastleigh in the table and instead sit two points and one place below the Spitfires.
However, Boreham Wood have two games in hand on their opponents this weekend and the defeat last weekend was just their first in the previous 10 matches.
Prior to the fixture against Solihull Moors, the Wood had kept five clean sheets in a row, however, the defensive stability has lacked at home this season as Boreham Wood sit in 15th position on home form.
The Wood’s top scorer is Lee Ndlovu with 11 goals this campaign, however, has not scored since February 25th against Scunthorpe United. While second-placed Tyrone Marsh who has seven goals this season is also in the same boat having failed to register since the same game.
Eastleigh:
Unlike the Wood, the Spitfires got back to winning ways in the last week with two victories, having defeated Altrincham 3-2 in the league before a much-changed side overcame Bashley 2-1 in the Hampshire Senior Cup.
Kairo Mitchell marked his return from suspension with his first Eastleigh goal, following a brilliant team move. Christian Maghoma also opened his Spitfires account against Altrincham scoring the third to secure all three points.
While in midweek, Jake Scrimshaw netted his second for Eastleigh since his return to the club.
The Spitfires sit in sixth position, level on points with Barnet in fifth place, having lost just twice in their last eleven league matches. Meaning Eastleigh are currently eight points above the dotted line for the playoffs.
Vincent Harper, who has not featured for the Spitfires since an injury against York City, continues his road to recovery and played a full 90 minutes for England C on Tuesday. Having made the bench against Altrincham last weekend the full-back is in contention for the Spitfires once again today.
Danny Whitehall remains the club’s top scorer with 15 goals in all competitions. While Charlie Carter trails in second with an impressive 8 goals this campaign, though the attacker did grab his seventh assist of the season last time out.
Previous Meetings:
The two sides have met twice already this season with Boreham Wood eliminating Eastleigh from the FA Cup before the Spitfires avenged the defeat in the league just four weeks later.
In total, the two teams have met 25 times and the Spitfires retook the lead in the head-to-head with their 10th victory when they last met.
The head-to-head is as close as the table suggests as the Wood have won nine times and the spoils have been shared the remaining six times.
