Eastleigh progressed into the next round of the Servio Hampshire Cup after a comfortable win against Millbrook. The Spitfires advanced from the third round after winning 4-0 at the Silverlake Stadium.
The Spitfires raced into an early lead after Paul McCallum headed home from close range. The striker then doubled the lead in the 32nd minute after a neat finish from Ryan Carroll’s cross.
Barney Stone then made it three after rounding the keeper and finishing from a tight angle early in the second half. To seal the deal for the Spitfires, it was Freddie Beale who netted from close range.
Today’s Servio Hampshire Cup team, managed by Jason Bristow, featured six regular matchday Eastleigh players: Josh McNamara, Sonnie Davis, Angel Waruih, McCallum, Stone, and Luis Fernandez, who took the armband!
Eastleigh nearly opened the scoring just one minute in when Davis’ long ball forward teased Jon Webb to try and collect the ball. However, Stone got there first, but his effort went over the bar. However, he was fouled in the process.
The resulting free-kick was delivered perfectly by Davis onto the head of McCallum, who opened the scoring in three minutes.
Exactly 20 minutes later, Ethan Jones very unselfishly slotted in Carroll, whose shot was kept out brilliantly by Webb at his near post.
Millbrook registered their first shot on target in the 28th minute when Scott Hills tried his luck from the edge of the box, but McNamara saved comfortably.
Carroll was amongst the action again, but this time he was the creator as he whipped in a cross towards McCallum. The striker’s touch allowed him time to slot the ball in from close range to make the score 2-0 to Eastleigh.
Following some skilful feet from Davis in the 37th minute, Eastleigh nearly made it three when the full-back slotted in Stone down the wing. Stone lashed a shot right across the face of goal, narrowly missing the far post.
The Spitfires nearly extended their lead to three in a close replication of the first goal. Davis whipped in his free-kick on the right-hand side to McCallum, but this time Webb did well to make the save.
The first action of the half saw some exceptional play from Stone. He followed up on a long ball forward and, in a race against the keeper, managed to take it around him. He then slotted home from a tight angle to make it 3-0 to Eastleigh.
In the 54th minute Eastleigh made it 4-0 when a low driven ball was met by Beale whose deflected shot beat the keeper from close range.
Millbrook had their best chance of the game when the ball fell nicely to Tahey Connelly inside the box but his shot was straight down the throat of McNamara.
The Spitfires remained in control of the game as they entered the hat for the fourth round of the Servio Hampshire Cup.
