Eastleigh FC are delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper Nick Townsend following his departure from Newport County!

Born in Solihull, Townsend began his football journey at Birmingham City, joining the academy at just nine years old. After progressing through the ranks, he gained senior experience during loan spells at Oxford City and Lincoln City, making over 30 appearances across both stints in non-league football.

His big break came with a move to Barnsley in 2015. Initially arriving on loan, Townsend signed permanently later that year and was part of the squad that secured promotion to the Championship via the play-offs, and lifted the EFL Trophy at Wembley in 2016.

Further experience came via a loan spell with Solihull Moors, before Townsend made a move in 2018 to join Newport County.

Since he arrived at Rodney Parade, Townsend became a fan favourite and played a vital part in the club’s push for League Two consistency and beyond, making over 200 appearances during his time in South Wales.

Alongside his club career, Townsend has also stepped into international football by representing Antigua and Barbuda. Thanks to his family heritage, he became eligible to play for the national team and made his debut in 2022. Since then, he has earned multiple caps, showcasing his talent on the international stage.

Upon joining the Spitfires, Townsend commented: “It’s good [to be here]. I’m glad it’s all done now and it’s an exciting start for me and my family to have a fresh start down here!”

Nick Townsend joins us on Tuesday 1 July, once his contract with Newport County expires.
