The Spitfires are back in Isuzu FA Trophy action, as we make the trip up to Nottinghamshire to face Basford United at Greenwich Avenue on Saturday 4th January, with a kick-off time of 3pm.

Basford United:

The Lions have been going through a rough patch of form as of late, and are currently down in 20th in the Northern Premier League Premier Division table. They have lost in each of their last six league outings.

However, this afternoon’s hosts have been having more success in cup competitions this season. Their run in the Isuzu FA Trophy has been a record breaking one, with the club making it to the Fourth Round for the first time in their history.

A win on penalties against Vanarama National League side FC Halifax Town took them to this point, following a 2-2 draw at Greenwich Avenue during regular time that day.

Last month, the Lions also managed to progress in the Nottinghamshire Saturday Senior Cup, with a Second Round win over Eastwood Community.

Basford United’s last five results:

01/01/25 | Ilkeston Town 5-0 Basford United | Northern Premier League Premier Division

28/12/24 | Basford United 1-3 Worksop Town | Northern Premier League Premier Division

21/12/24 | Leek Town 4-1 Basford United | Northern Premier League Premier Division

17/12/24 | Eastwood Community 1-2 Basford United | Nottinghamshire Saturday Senior Cup

14/12/24 | Basford 1-2 United of Manchester | Northern Premier League Premier Division

Eastleigh:

The Spitfires come into this game, off the back of a strong result against Barnet. The Bees had started the day at the top of the Vanarama National League, but were knocked off of top spot, after drawing with the Spitfires.

An early goal from Tyrese Shade was cancelled out in the 71st minute, meaning the game would end all square at the Silverlake Stadium.

The result meant that the Spitfires would extend their unbeaten run to eight games across all competitions, having not lost since the beginning of November.

The Spitfires booked their spot in the Fourth Round of the Isuzu FA Trophy with a win over Hanwell Town back in December, with Scott Quigley and Chris Maguire both getting themselves on the scoresheet that day.
