The Spitfires are knocked out of the Servio Men’s Senior Cup by Tadley Calleva.

After the Spitfires led for the majority of the game, a late equaliser from the hosts meant the game would go to penalties.

The home side kept their cool, and won the shootout.

Corey Panter whacked a free-kick into the Tadley wall, a few minutes into the game, with the Spitfires’ first chance of the tie.

In the 18th minute, Connor Underhill opened the scoring with an excellent finish into the top right corner of the goal, following a period of good play.

Rodgers had a massive chance in the 22nd minute and looked set to level the scoring. He shot from the right hand side of the box, after finding himself through on goal. Tommy Scott superbly denied his shot with a diving save, to keep the Spitfires in control of the game.

Miller flashed a shot just wide of the post a few minutes later, as the home side continued to push for an equaliser.

Joe Ryan then went up the other end, with eyes for goal. After driving with the ball, he unleashed a shot that went over the crossbar.

With the momentum shifting back in favour of the Spitfires, Underhill attempted to find the black of the set for the second time, with a shot on the edge of the box. His strike was blocked down low by the Tadley defence.

Jai Semenyo tested Atkinson with a powerful effort just before the break. His shot was pushed away well by the Tadley ‘keeper, meaning the Spitfires would go into the break with a one goal lead.

Early on in the second-half, Underhill was denied of doubling the Spitfires lead, with the Tadley defence producing an excellent block.

Panter then struck the crossbar with a free-kick from around 25-yards out. He looped a shot over the Tadley wall and towards the top right hand corner of the goal, but saw his shot cannon off the top of the woodwork.

Jack Fox then whipped a cross into the path of Jamie Arnold who sent a glancing header towards goal. His shot was caught well, by Atkinson in the Tadley goal.

Ryan came close to adding another to the Spitfires’ tally just after the hour mark. He hit the ball just over the bar with a clever shot from the edge of the box.

Scott was then called into action again, and produced another fine save to deny Tadley from equalising in the 66th minute.

Underhill hit the top of the net with the next chance of the game. He shot from range with hopes of scoring his second of the afternoon, but could not quite find the target.

Thorne clipped the post with a shot from a tight angle, with just over ten minutes remaining, as they pushed for a late equaliser.

Atkinson produced an exceptional save to deny Billy Brackley of giving the Spitfires a second goal late on.

Sol Ceesay came off the bench and equalised in the dying moments, meaning the game would go to penalties.

The home side scored all five of their penalties in the shootout, meaning they would progress.
