The Spitfires are back in Vanarama National League action, as we travel to Essex to face Southend United at Roots Hall on Tuesday 10th September, with a kick-off time of 7:45pm.

Southend United:

The Shrimpers travelled to Boundary Park in their last game, to face Oldham Athletic.

A strike from Gus Scott-Morriss in the 35th minute put the Essex side ahead. His goal would go on to be cancelled out by Mike Fondop late on, meaning the two sides would share the points.

They also had a draw in their game before that. Dagenham & Redbridge visited Roots Hall, and were denied of a late win, with Scott-Morriss scoring an equaliser late on in injury time.

Scott-Morriss has scored in each of Southend’s last four games, and will be looking to keep that streak alive against the Spitfires this evening.

Eastleigh:

Over the weekend, the Spitfires faced Tamworth at the Silverlake Stadium.

Paul McCallum scored the only goal of the game in just the sixth minute, with the Spitfires putting on an impressive defensive display to earn a clean sheet and take all three points.

Before that, the Spitfires had their longest trip of the season as they travelled to Gateshead.

A late winner from Louis Storey meant that Gateshead were able to leap frog the Spitfires and go top of the table.

Last season, Southend did the double over the Spitfires. The season before that, the Spitfires did the double over Southend.

In the most recent meeting between the two sides, a second-half spot kick from Jack Bridge made the difference for the Essex side.
