After falling behind early on, the Spitfires peg back Sutton United to earn a draw at the Silverlake Stadium.

Our unbeaten record remains intact, following the fifth game of the Vanarama National League season.

An early goal from Eduino Vaz was cancelled out by Paul McCallum just before half-time. The visitors hit the crossbar twice during injury-time, but could not manage to find a winner.

The first effort on goal came 10 minutes into the game, with Sutton attempting to open the scoring. Odelusi had a goal from the edge of the box which forced Joe McDonnell to get down low to deny him from scoring.

Sutton went on to get themselves on the scoresheet three minutes later. Vaz curled a left footed shot into the top left hand corner of the goal from just outside the box, giving them an early lead.

Neither side managed to create any chances for the next 20 minutes, that was until Josh Coley struck a powerful volley on the edge of the box that was blocked excellently and cleared away from danger.

The Spitfires got back on level terms in the 37th minute. Jai Semenyo ran down the wing before passing the ball out to Scott Quigley who whipped the ball into the box. Yet again, McCallum leaped into the air to meet the cross and unsurprisingly thumped the ball into the back of the net.

McCallum’s header meant that the two sides would go into half-time on level terms.

The Spitfires had a few good chances just before the hour mark, with the best of the lot coming from Lloyd Humphries who cannoned a powerful effort towards goal on the half-volley. His shot was blocked away from the target and went out for corner, which would result in nothing.

Chris Maguire curled a beautiful cross into the box in the 65th minute which found Tyrese Shade. At first, it looked as if he had lost his chance at getting a decent shot off. He scuffed his shot but it then fell back into his path, he struck the ball towards goal and forced an impressive stop out of Steve Arnold.

Will Davies forced McDonnell into making an impressive stop in the 70th minute. He struck the ball from close range, but could not beat the Eastleigh ‘keeper.

Vaz attempted to put the visitors in front not too long after this. McDonnell managed to stick a leg out to deny his effort, keeping the score level.

Shade broke through behind the Sutton defence early on in injury time, before laying the ball into the path of Lee Hodson who crossed the ball into a dangerous area but could not find one of his teammates.

With just moments remaining, Sutton hit the crossbar twice and forced a magnificent save out of McDonnell. Somehow they did not manage to find the back of the net, meaning the game would end in a draw.
