Chris Maguire scores from the spot to give the Spitfires their four win in a row, following a tense outing at the J Davidson Stadium.
Neither side could really test each other too much, up until Scott Quigley was taken down to give the Spitfires a penalty in the 72nd minute.
In our six previous trips to Altrincham we had not managed to pick up a win, making this one our first one at the J Davidson Stadium.
Early on in the game, neither side could really to manage to create any real chances. There were no shots on goal within the first 15 minutes.
This lasted up until Alex Newby took a free kick on the corner of the Spitfires’ area. He thumped his effort high and wide of the target though, meaning the score would remain level.
The next 20 minutes or so also did not bring any real attempts on goal for either side. The game was mainly played out in the middle of the park.
Jake Vokins came close to opening the scoring in the 38th minute. Tyrese Shade rolled the ball back into his path so that he could have a go from the left side of the box. His effort drifted just wide of the target.
Joe McDonnell was called into action for the first time in the 41st minute. Max Haygarth thumped a low-driven effort towards goal but saw his shot get denied impressively by the Eastleigh ‘keeper.
Lloyd Humphries had a go on goal on the stroke of half-time, with a shot on the spin. He could not find the target meaning it would be all square going into the break.
Justin Amaluzor had the first attempt on goal of the second-half, his shot on the spin could only find the side netting though in the 51st minute.
McDonnell made an impressive stop in the 62nd minute. Lewis Banks hit towards goal and looked set to score, but was left disappointed after McDonnell matched his effort well.
Scott Quigley had a go from range with just over 20 minutes remaining, his effort was saved low down by Ross in the Altrincham goal.
Maguire gave the Spitfires the lead from the spot in the 72nd minute. He fired the ball into the right side of the net to send the 61 travelling Spitfires fans into celebration.
The hosts piled on the pressure in the last 20 minutes, but couldn’t find an equaliser meaning Maguire goal would go on to be enough to get the Spitfires over the line to secure their four consecutive win.
