The Spitfires earn their second clean sheet in as many games, as we draw with Chippenham at The Thornbury Surfacing Stadium.
Neither side was able to find the back of the net during the close affair, but both came close on several occasions.
The hosts had a chance early on to take the lead after one of their attackers was put through on goal with a long ball. He attempted to dink Tommy Scott who ended having no issues with gathering the Bluebirds attackers effort.
The next chance of the game also fell for the Bluebirds, this time in the eighth minute. Following a corner the ball found its way into the path of one of their attackers, he took aim and dragged his shot from the edge of the box just wide of the target.
In the 12th minute, the Spitfires had their first attempt on goal. Angel Waruih whipped a cross into the box from the left-wing after beating his man and cutting the ball back onto his right foot. The ball found the head of Malachi Dotse who could not direct his effort on target as he saw it go wide to the right of the goal.
The hosts had another go on goal in the 23rd minute, where similarly to their last effort, an attacker received the ball on the edge of the box but dragged it wide of the mark just before the players had their first drinks break of the match.
The hosts then had another go on goal in the 33rd minute, with their effort coming from a bit of range again. Their attacker hit the ball directly down the middle of the go, meaning Scott was able to get down and gather the effort without having to stretch too much.
Chris Maguire struck a long-range free-kick just over the crossbar in the 38th minute, his audacious effort was probably as close as the Spitfires had got to getting on the scoresheet at that point.
Chippenham had another go on goal just before the break, with one of their attackers receiving the ball out on the left flank before attempting to curl an effort home. His could not get quite enough curl on his effort though and he saw his shot spin just wide of the far post.
A Chippenham player attempted a bicycle kick just two minutes into the second-half after getting onto the ball following a corner. His effort was blocked by the Spitfires defence before being cleared away from danger.
Moments after this, the Spitfires had their own attempt to open the scoring. Trialist B laid the ball into the path of Maguire who struck it just inside the box but saw his shot go narrowly wide of the post.
Dotse then had a go on goal as the Spitfires attempted to pile the pressure on the hosts, his effort from the edge of the box was agonisingly close to going in but flew millimetres over the crossbar.
The pace of the game slowed down a bit over the next 20 minutes or so in the game, with neither side really being able to make and goalscoring opportunities.
Nathan Rogers had a go on goal in the 74th minute, Trialist B whipped a low-driven cross into the box that was cleared only as far as Rogers who was on the edge of the box. When the ball fell to him he could not strike the ball as he would’ve wanted, and he saw his effort get denied.
Chippenham had a late go on goal but saw Scott deny them well, meaning the game would end goalless.
