Our U16’s journey in the JPL National Cup comes to an end in the semi-finals following a fantastic run in the tournament.
The young Spitfires played quarter finals of the JPL National Cup away to Gloucester City FC and won the match comfortably 3-0 with goals from Hubert Cegielka, Keegan Kelly and Tom Woodward.
They were drawn to face Potters Bar Town FC away in the semi finals, the tie finished in a 2-2 draw with the young Spitfires coming from behind twice with goals from Louis Thompson and a Hubert Cegielka penalty.
The match went to penalties and after both teams scored their first round of kicks, Reece Kelly superbly saved the second kick from Potters Bar only for it to be controversially ruled out by the assistant referee who suggested that Reece had come off his line. Unfortunately, the young Spitfires went on to lose 4-2 in the shootout after this.
It has been a superb season so far for the U16 Spitfires who also are in contention to qualify for the JPL National Play Off Finals and have reached the Hampshire FA Saturday U16 Cup Final. The team are also top of the City of Southampton Youth League Division 1 with a 100% record with four games to play and in both the Hampshire FA Sunday U16 Cup Final and CSYL Cup.
Further to this, the young Spitfires have reached the final of the Hampshire cup on Saturdays and Sundays.
Credit goes to both Lee Kelly and Neil Cassar for leading the side towards achieving the heights that they have done this season.
Well done to everyone involved!
