The Spitfires are back in Vanarama National League action as they host Southend United at the Silverlake Stadium on Saturday 13th January, with a kick-off time of 3pm.

Eastleigh:

The Spitfires weren’t in league action last week because of our ongoing run in the Emirates FA Cup.

We travelled up to South Wales to face Newport County in what was a 1-1 draw played out in front of 1,000 travelling Spitfires.

After going down to 10-men in the first half, a late penalty from Chris Maguire secured a replay for the Spitfires.

Newport County will travel to the Silverlake Stadium on Tuesday night for that clash with the winner earning the right to host Manchester United in the fourth round of the competition.

The last time the Spitfires played in the Vanarama National League they hosted Dagenham & Redbridge at the Silverlake Stadium.

It was a back-and-forth game that ended in a 4-4 draw.

Paul McCallum scored a hat trick which was backed up Jayden Harris with a goal of his own during the tie on New Year’s Day.

Southend United:

The visitors were in league action as usual at the weekend.

They faced FC Halifax Town at Roots Hall and eased their way to a 3-0 win.

Henry Sandat scored just three minutes into the game to put them into the driver’s seat early on.

Gus Scott-Morriss backed the opener up with a brace late in the game to secure the win.

Despite that result, Southend have not been on the best run of form as of late.

They have won two out of their last seven games and will be looking to turn that round and pick up a result at the Silverlake Stadium.

The 10-point deduction they picked up early in the season hindered their progress in the league table; they are currently sitting four spots behind the Spitfires, in 15th.

Previous meetings:

The two sides have already met once before this season.

Spitfires’ fans would not have been desperate to remember that tie though, Southend secured a 2-0 win thanks to first-half goals from Noor Husin and Harry Cardwell on the day.

The Spitfires did the league double over Southend last season, that can’t be done again this year, but they will be looking to pick up another win to back it up.
