The Spitfires are back in Emirates FA Cup action as they travel to South Wales to face Newport County in the third round of the competition on 6th January, with a kick-off time of 3pm.

Newport County:

The hosts faced Sutton United on New Year’s Day last time out, they drew 1-1 at the Borough Sports Ground, Shane McLoughlin was the scorer for the South Wales side.

Newport didn’t have the smoothest route to the third round of the FA Cup, they were taken to a replay against Barnet before the could earn their spot.

Following a 1-1 draw at Rodney Parade between the sides, they met 10 days later at the Hive Stadium.

Newport were able to see off Barnet with a 4-1 win. Goals from Lewis Payne, Omar Bogle, Seb Palmer-Houlden and an own goal from Danny Collinge bought them a ticket into the third round.

Eastleigh:

The Spitfires last game was also on New Year’s Day, we faced Dagenham & Redbridge at the Silverlake Stadium in what was an eight-goal-thriller.

Paul McCallum scored a hat trick that day during the 4-4 draw, Jayden Harris was the other scorer.

We made it through to the third round of the FA Cup by beating Reading 2-1 at the Silverlake Stadium.

McCallum popped up with goals in both halves, helping to the Spitfires to secure the win in front 5,000 fans.

Previous meetings:

The sides have not met for almost 14 years now, all of the previous five meetings came in the National League South.

Newport won the two most recent games with Eastleigh winning the three before that.
