The young Spitfires make history as they progress to the second round of the FA Youth Cup despite a late scare.

Sam Godfroy put the young Spitfires a goal up early on in the game before Lewis Colvin doubled that lead with 20 minutes to go.

Maxwell Hurst pulled one back for the visitors in the dying moments but it wasn’t enough as the young Spitfires went on to progress to the second round of the FA Youth Cup for the first time in the clubs history.

The first chance of the game came for Portsmouth when Daniel Murray took a shot from the right side of the box that was blocked by the Eastleigh defence.

Koby Mottoh had the next chance in the 11th minute when he shot from the edge of the box only to see his effort blocked by Ashton Pickles.

Sam Folarin headed the ball just over the bar in the 15th minute, continuing the visitors bright start.

Sam Godfroy put the young Spitfires ahead in the 20th minute. Billy Brackley cut into the box and took a shot that rebounded into his path before he tucked it away.

Godfroy cleared a Portsmouth effort from off the line in the 31st minute to keep the young Spitfires ahead.

Maxwell Hurst looped a header towards the top right corner in the 33rd minute but his effort was saved well by Harrison.

Harvey Laidlaw curled a long range effort wide of the goal in the 38th minute with what ended up being the last chance of the half.

Billy Brackley came inches away from doubling the young Spitfires lead in the 48th minute when the ball was flashed across goal into his path but he saw his effort hit the post.

Hurst came close for the visitors in the 58th minute with a shot from inside the box that was blocked well by Dan Aitken.

In the 62nd minute Hurst came close again with a headed effort that went just wide to the right of the goal.

Lewis Colvin doubled the young Spitfires lead in the 70th minute after Brackley swung in a cross that he met with a powerful header.

Hurst pulled one back for the visitors in the 93rd minute but it wasn’t enough as the young Spitfires progressed to the second round of the FA Youth Cup.
