Eastleigh Women’s Hampshire county cup campaign came to an end in the first round courtesy of a 3-0 loss against Bournemouth Sports at the Silverlake Stadium.

A solo effort from Becky Miles in the second half sealed the Spitfires’ fate after first-half goals from Rosie Eden and Faye Hawkins saw them trail 2-0 at the break.

The visitors controlled the early stages of the game as they dominated possession but found it difficult to create chances.

That changed on thirteen minutes when a Bournemouth corner came back off the crossbar and Eden was on hand to turn the ball over the line from close range.

A wayward pass out from the back by Sarah Kelsall was pinched by Liane Folkenstern allowing the Bournemouth forward time to shoot, but she could only bend her effort wide from the edge of the box.

On 37 minutes the visitors doubled their lead. Having scored the first Eden turned provider when she squared to Hawkins who fired the ball past Sarah Kelsall.

A short clearance from the Bournemouth goalkeeper led to the Spitfires having their first effort on goal. Lani Dickinson’s attempt to catch the keeper off her line from distance sailed over the crossbar.

As the second half progressed the visitors regained control of the game and went close to adding a third on two occasions. Kelsall was forced into making a fine stop to deny an effort from range moments before Miles sent a shot just over the bar.

With 12 minutes to go Bournemouth took advantage of their superiority and extended their lead. Miles burst past three Spitfires defenders before slotting the ball into the bottom left corner.

Sarah Bradshaw did come close to grabbing a consolation goal on 82 minutes when her deflected effort forced a rare save from Sam Chrippes.
