York City:

The Minstermen have returned to the Vanarama National League after five years away, having won promotion from the National League North via the playoffs in the 2021/22 season.

Under the leadership of John Askey since November 2021, York had a resurgence in the second half of the 2021/22 season, rising from 11th place to gain promotion.

Askey’s men have settled back into the National League with one win, one draw, and one defeat as they sit in 9th position on goal difference.

Experienced striker, Lenell John-Lewis, has two goals so far this campaign and scored the equaliser in their last outing – a televised 1-1 draw against Solihull Moors on Wednesday 17th August.

Eastleigh:

The Spitfires also head into the fourth game of the season with one win, one draw, and one defeat on their record so far.

Last time out, a stoppage time equaliser from Charlie Carter – the midfielder’s first goal for the club – earned Lee Bradbury’s side a point against Dagenham & Redbridge at the Silverlake Stadium.

The dramatic draw sees the Spitfires top the second half of the table in 13th place after three games

All three of the goals scored so far have come from new summer signings, as George Langston, Tristan Abrahams, and Charlie Carter all share one goal apiece in the scoring charts.

Previous Meetings:

This will only be the third ever meeting between the two sides as they have only shared a season in the same division once before.

In 2016/17, the sides played out a 1-1 draw at the Silverlake Stadium with Mikael Mandron’s goal cancelled out by a Simon Heslop strike.

Then, at the now-demolished Bootham Crescent, a Ross Stearn goal wasn’t enough to prevent a 3-1 defeat for the Spitfires
